58th USSR Championship (open)

You keep a tournament book in your hands which includes all 352 games played in the championship, part of them with commentaries. The theoretical survey of the openings made by international grandmasters Lembit Oll and others. We hope that our book made in express-style, will find its way to chessfans.

Among the 64 participian there in overwhelming majority were owners of international titles and about a half of them grandmasters. Thanks to the sponsors the prizes proceedingfrom Russia's present conditions were mightly and for that reason the struggles were without compromice. A lor of interesting games were played there, plenty of new ideas were introduced into the opening theory.

The championship ended (as you can see from the table-score added) with a great surprice. The main prize, a «Ladda» car, was won by an Armenian chessmaster Artaches Minasjan (b.1967), internationally not so well known. True enough, winner's starting ELO rating was 2510. He left behind a large number of celebrities.
