The object of this booklet is to acquaint the visitors to our republic with the musical life of Soviet Estonia, to give them an insight into the development of Estonian music in the past and present, and to outline the achievements in musical composition and in the art of perfomance.
Designed pirmarily as a reference book, it allots but little space to single out composers and their work. However, it aims to trace the most prevailing trends against their historical background. To enhance the value of the booklet as a source of information it is supplemented by an alphabetically ordered list of composers and other musicians mentioned in the next, indicating their full names and dates.
