Planning of Cultural Landscapes

Dedicated to the 275th Anniversary of Kadriorg Park

Kadrioru pargi 275. sünnipäeva puhul korraldati 1993. a. 15.-17. septembrini Tallinnas rahvusvaheline konverents «Eesti ajaloolised pargid – sild lääne ja ida vahel». Käesolevasse kogumikku ongi koondatud konverentsi ettekanded.

The most representative historical palace and park ensemble in Estonia is Kadriorg, founded in 1718-1722 to be the residence of the Russian Tsar, Peter the Great, by Nicolo Michetti's designs. The Kadriorg ensemble has preserved its main functions, integrity and landscape architectural value throughout centuries, setting a good example to hundreds of parks in Estonia.
It is believed that the birthday of Kadriorg Park was July 22, 1718 when Peter the Great marked the boundaries of the palace and the park.

The present publication is also dedicated to the 275th anniversary of the Kadriorg ensemble. It contains materials of the international conference «Historical Gardens – Bridge Between West and East» (Tallinn, Sept. 15-17, 1993) organized by the Tallinn Municipality, the Tallinn Botanical Garden of the Estonian Academy of Sciences and Estonian National Committee for UNESCO.
