These papers explore recent efforts in Estonia to harmonise the economy and social sphere with the capitalist economies in preparation for accession to the European Union. This process will involve many very serious decisions on integration. Since Estonia has been selected to join the EU in the first group of Central and Eastern European Nations, it is important that this harmonisation is completed rapidly and, at the same time, it must be with as few disruptive effects as possible on our socio-economic system. Thus, the harmonisation should develop an intrinsically deeper economic co-operation between Estonia and the West.
