Not far from
Tallinn, there is a picturesque forest park of Rocca al Mare, a former resort. There, the Estonian State Open-Air Museum was established in 1957. Valuable remnants of folk culture have been collected and arranged into an original open-air exhibition, which gives a genuine depiction of the most characteristic facets of old rural architecture in the different regions of Estonia and reflects the living conditions and social relationships of the peasantry in Estonian villages from the mid-18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. We find rural buildings along with the corresponding furnishings, household articles, tools, and numerous folk-art objects.
